WD Schemes

The Galleria Outlet Centre – Hatfield

The Galleria, which comprises some 500,000 sq. ft. of accommodation was acquired in 1993 from Receivership as a "failed" scheme with many and varied problems.

Wd Masterminded a strategy to take The Galleria from receivership to becoming one of the most significant outlet centres in the UK. Being one of the first outlet centres in the UK and to date the only significant conversion of an existing retail centre to an outlet format.

The format chosen specifically allowed for a small element of conventional retailing to complement the outlet strength thereby greatly enhancing the appeal to the public and the trading ability of the scheme.

In 2005, WD Limited ceased being an investor in the scheme when it sold its final equity. The scheme was sold at a price of nearly 12 times the original purchase price.

WD was employed for over a year to continue the asset management of the scheme.

The Galleria is today regarded as one of the top 5 UK outlet centres and has the third highest trading potential whilst being the second most visited outlet centre in the UK. It is today a recognised landmark and feature of North London and the Northern Home Counties.

The centre currently comprises key tenants such as Marks & Spencer, Waterstones, HMV, Pringle, Mexx, Ghost, Ravel, Liz Claiborne and Austin Reed as well as a restaurant and cinema complex incorporating a nine screen multiplex and six major family based restaurant chains.
