The half mile long Greenock Shopping Centre was acquired from Inverclyde District Council and the 300,000 sq. ft net shopping centre was enclosed, comprehensively refurbished and extended, including for the provision of major new anchor stores. The enclosure included for the provision of a fully glazed mall, new flooring and fire safety systems. This involved the out of hours installation of sprinkler and fire alarm systems to every unit throughout the scheme with no disruption to trade.
In addition, a voluntary service charge was introduced with a majority take-up to arrange for the ongoing management of the scheme.
The centre, now known as Oak Mall, was sold in 1994 to a major UK insurance company.
