Chatham-Dockside Machine Shop 8

In 2017 WD agreed to purchase this unique Grade 2 Listed structure the last unrefurbished building on the old Royal Navy Dockyard.

Planning and listed building consent has been obtained to convert this structure into a 30,000 sqft leisure complex using a unique form of construction and regeneration solution.

The proposal will see this building occupied by two unique and “trophy” leisure uses, as benefit such a unique building and location.

A video has been created to show not only the location of the building but also to show in detail what the end space will be. Please click here to view.

Machine Shop 8 is a Grade 2* Listed structure, which started life as a ship building slip at Woolwich. In 1865 it was removed and transported to Chatham where it was reassembled as part of the ship building and repair facility of Chatham Royal Navy Dockyard. Since the mid 1970’s the structure has been standing vacant without its original cladding.

With a clear internal height of over 18m the buildings will be an imposing space with natural lighting creating a unique and historic space. Two units are being created of 18,000 and 12,000 sqft.
