Reviving the hidden potential of Stevenage
WD acquired the Westgate Centre, Stevenage in 2012 with a view to expanding the scheme as a focal point for the revival of this major town. Stevenage has a low retail ranking for its population, economy and location and thus the very real prospect of medium term retail growth. Since the purchase, key letting objectives have been met with new signings such as Miss Selfridge and BANK and the construction of a new 20,000 sq. ft. store for H&M created from a restructuring of the multi-storey car park and ground floor space. Testament to the re-emergence of Westgate as the principle fashion destination in the town, following the opening of H&M new signings including Bonmarché and ‘Open’, one of the first of JD Sports’ new concept stores. The centre continues to trade at full occupancy and there is a strong and growing regional demand for representation.
